Spotlights

Throughout my time at Heights, I’ve met many teachers and staff and all were very respectful, compassionate and overall wonderful human beings. But, if I had to choose one person who particularly stood out to me, it would be Mr. Payne. I met Mr. Payne in sixth grade, and I would’ve admitted I was more than a little nervous at that time, but from the moment he taught us how to use Canva, to my first ever disc golf practice, he had always been extremely welcoming and kind, helping both with technology problems and teaching us all new things to help further ourselves as individuals and students. Additionally, he taught me both Disc Golf, as well as 3D printing and I can’t thank him enough for everything he has done for me throughout my time here at Heights.

Through my years at Heights I’ve had many teachers who I love and adore, but I can positively say that the teacher who’s influenced me the most is my 8th grade science teacher Mr. Drew. Mr. Drew is an amazing teacher who’s very reliable and honest. Yes, his class was challenging but the way he teaches and cares shows how much he cares for his students. By starting the class off with duck races or fun little games, Mr. Drew made science a class to look forward to. Mr. Drew showed me that you don’t always have to sugar coat things, he taught me that honesty can help you succeed, and most importantly Mr. Drew helped me realize that it’s not just about teaching and learning, it’s also about connecting with your students. To make them stand out and feel noticed.

All of the Heights staff I have met have impacted me, but both Ms. Huber and Mr. Johnson have stood out to me more than anyone else over my time at Heights.

Ms. Huber has always been there to talk and listen to me, push me to my limits, and has always been there cheering me on!

And Mr. Johnson has always seen me for who I am, is always willing to help me out no matter what the struggle is, and is always there to listen to me.
