CDC releases results of COVID-19 school study involving Pattonville

Dear Pattonville families and staff,

Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released the results of a study on COVID-19 transmission in schools that was conducted in partnership with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), Saint Louis University and Washington University in St. Louis. As we previously shared with you, Pattonville joined other schools in Missouri to assist with this project as a way to help assess the district’s COVID-19 prevention strategies.

The good news is that the study found that in-school COVID-19 transmission is rare, even among close school contacts of those who test positive for the virus, when schools have in place health and safety precautions.

The results of the study can be found in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), a weekly epidemiological digest for the United States published by the CDC, at http://bit.ly/CDC-PSDstudyResults.

We want to make you aware of the results and thank all the families and staff who volunteered to participate in the study to help health officials and school leaders make informed decisions about keeping schools open and safe. I also want to thank our staff, administrators and board members who have worked so hard to support our efforts to keep students and staff healthy and safe. Your efforts are visible for the world to see, and you are making a difference, not only in Pattonville, but across the U.S.

Sincerely,
Tim Pecoraro, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
